Sharp Wit for a Dull World!

I'm wondering what the best approach would be to building the setting for these stories.

I'm inclined toward what I've seen Mr. Jerks use, topology>ocean currents>weather patterns>climates>trade routes>political evolution>etc. It makes sense, because everything is built on what comes before, but odds are, I'd quit while drawing the squiggly lines on the coast.


Maybe I can work from both ends and see if I can make it meet in the middle. Like how people build roads in Michigan.

Top down building is tiresome and tedious. Because it's surrounded by north Atlantic currrents, Reykjavik receives 6.2 cm on average this month. If you're not going to Iceland it doesnt matter though, does it?

Detail the aspect of the setting that impacts the scene or chapter the most - the most immediate. Radiate out as you need to paying heed to topography and meteorology.
