I posted this extended comment in relation to a blog on Yahoo! about this tournament from Vibe Magazine. In light of our music DominionCast, it's pretty relevant, oui?

Nope, I think Em winning is pretty legit. Yes, some great MCs were left out, but the ones the blogger lists don't release much, if any, material anymore. I mean, Marley Marl could put most rappers to shame, but he just doesn't put much stuff out.
To the points, however: Slim Shady is a phenomenal rapper. If you can say he's "definitely top 5", then you may as well admit that him winning #1 in a tourney format isn't far-fetched. The fact that Jay-Z was there is more hard to believe -- a very good rapper, but "Captain Hook", as I like to call him (probably other do, too), is the classic beat-made beast. He can still flow, hype production or no, but he's not quite on the level of somebody like Eminem. Just listen to "Renegade" to see what I mean.
Next: If you know about March Madness, then you know that "meaningful" matchups are part and parcel with the tourney deal, so Common v. Black Thought, Mos v. Talib KWELI (total credibility loss there, Mr. Johnson), et. al. make a lot of sense. Also, the better seeds are supposed to play the worse seeds, so you're supposed to see Luda v. Young Dro -- otherwise, you'd just have to give the dude a bye. And, in things like this, whether voted on, actually played out where you put MCs in a ring and make 'em battle, or whatever, upsets happen. See the Battle of Kruger -- it's a part of life.
Lastly, though, I saw a couple of "where's E-40??" and "where's 'Ye??" questions out here. The answer is "THEY'RE ON THE BRACKET, IDIOT." Look before you leap with your Pro-Keds in your mouth, ya savvy? Is it that hard to click and read? I wonder sometimes. ACTUAL conspicuous omissions include MF Doom, AZ, and Immortal Technique, all of whom killed Soulja Boy while swishing Listerine in their mouths this morning.
I'm glad discussions like these still go on, though. We had one on our latest DominionCast. If anybody cares about it, look it up, cause I ain't gonna spam.
